The Cumberland County freeholders on Tuesday will vote on a resolution to apply for a $465,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres program in order to pursue trail and open space projects. The grant would help municipalities in furthering “rails-to-trails” and other open space projects in accordance with the new Cumberland County open space master plan.
According to the resolution, if a match from the county is required, the county will contribute up to $465,000 – bringing project’s cost ceiling to $930,000. According to officials from the American Littoral Society office in Bridgeton, 19 other counties in New Jersey have applied for the Green Acres grants.
