David A. Kuhn, Director
Division of Local Aid and Economic Development
New Jersey Department of Transportation
1035 Parkway Avenue, PO Box 600
Trenton, NJ 08625

Dear Mr. Kuhn:

I would like to take this opportunity to express the Southern New Jersey Development Council's support of the Borough of Glassboro's application for the Transportation Enhancement 2005 Program. The Borough is requesting $500,000 for the Streetscapes portion associated with Main Street from High Street to Route 322, a program that will help with the continued revitalization of the downtown business district.

The $500,000 will be used to install a brick paved pedestrian walkway and include decorative street lamps and trash receptacles along with trees and tree grates to match what is currently being installed in the downtown along High Street.

I encourage you to support their efforts and believe that Glassboro officials, the Economic Development office and Rowan University are making tremendous strides in being proactive in helping to revitalize the Borough's downtown business district. By awarding Glassboro the TE 2005 grant you too will help the economic momentum this up and coming Gloucester County community is experiencing.

In addition, Glassboro's revitalization project is a perfect example of a Smart Growth project and their success will help to support the direction of this administration. By supporting their efforts, you can help Glassboro create a model for other communities around the state.

Some facts: Over the past year, the Borough has helped to create over 300 new jobs in the downtown and helped assist and develop business throughout the community resulting in the amount of $7 million dollars in investments.

As you can see this is the kind of community that is responsible in its efforts to enhance the quality of life for everyone in the town, county and state. It's the kind of community that is making major imprints throughout the state in how all towns should be growing and developing.

Please help us help the Borough and support their request. If you have any questions about the proposed project or Glassboro's TE 2005 request, please contact Sam Leone, Glassboro's Economic Development Director.

I thank you for your time and your consideration.

Sincerely

Marlene Z. Asselta
President, SNJDC
