Government Affairs

The Southern New Jersey Development Council (SNJDC) is committed to responsible economic development in South Jersey. The organization lobbies for a comprehensive legislative agenda that benefits business and economic development while preserving a quality of life well known in the region.

SNJDC employs a full-time lobbyist to represent its interests in Trenton, Washington D.C., and town halls throughout the southern eight counties in New Jersey. The organization supports projects, proposals and initiatives on all levels of government that will help to increase the economic health of South Jersey while respecting the quality of life that residents of South Jersey have come to expect.

The SNJDC plays a vital role in some of the key issues our state faces. Whether our position was ultimately successful or clashed with a competing viewpoint, the message for an economically healthy South Jersey was consistent and clear.

As the physical embodiment of an economic ideal, the SNJDC has supported and will continue to support policy it considers beneficial to the South Jersey economy while attempting to prevent adverse legislation.

Our influential membership of compatible companies and organizations have the power and means to influence the growth and direction of South Jersey.

Listed below are just a few projects we were, and still are, proud to support:

  • A delay on the smoking ban in Atlantic City as it would further hinder an already ailing gaming industry.
  • An endorsement of the Delaware River Port Authority’s Transportation Investment Vision for South Jersey. Letters were sent to the governor and state legislature alerting public officials of the SNJDC’s position.
  • Support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) with emphasis on specific shovel ready projects.
  • Support of small cities public financing through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
