Business and healthcare leaders convened from across South Jersey at the Legacy Club at Woodcrest for a high-level discussion on the issues shaping the healthcare landscape.
Assemblywoman Melinda Kane of New Jersey's 6th Legislative District opened the program with brief welcome remarks, kicking off an invigorating discussion panel led by Dr. Brigid Harrison of Montclair State University. The roundtable featured key hospital leaders discussing their insights into the issues impacting the healthcare industry in New Jersey and included Michael Charlton, President & CEO of AtlantiCare; Amy Mansue, President & CEO of Inspira Health; Aaron Chang, President of Jefferson Health – East; and Dr. John Matsinger, Executive Vice President & COO of Virtua Health.
A recurring theme was the importance of strong partnerships with state and county governments to support health education and long-term growth. The panelists commended the state's commitment to reshaping its healthcare landscape but pointed to the need to reduce federal red tape that often hinders funding.
Transportation challenges were a key concern, with Amy Mansue noting the lack of ride-share and public transit options in South Jersey. She emphasized the growing importance of telehealth as an alternative. Dr. John Matsinger highlighted the role of higher education in developing cost-effective health programs, noting that population growth around these institutions could help strengthen local healthcare infrastructure.
The discussion also underscored the value of forums like those hosted by the SNJDC, which bring together healthcare providers, local organizations, and policymakers to collaborate on improving healthcare across the region.
Congressman Herb Conaway, M.D. from New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District closing keynote touched upon proposed federal cuts and its impact on New Jersey's hospital, senior and veteran services. He stressed the importance of engagement of the business and local community with representatives, ending on a positive note that "the future can be bright, if we come together and work as a single nation for a better tomorrow."
